Does Uber Eats count as dining for credit card rewards?
· Category rules checked against issuer terms
Usually yes. Uber Eats restaurant orders are commonly reported to post as restaurants, and they earn dining on cards whose dining category includes delivery. Uber Eats and Uber rides can post in different categories on the same card.
- Dining on the Amex Gold Card (U.S. takeout and delivery)
- Dining on U.S. Bank Altitude Go (restaurant delivery)
- Chase's "Select food delivery" category, where a card has it
- Chase's "dining when purchased directly from a restaurant" category
- Travel (don't assume Uber Eats posts like an Uber ride)
How Uber Eats is coded
Uber Eats and Uber rides are separate merchants, even though they share an account. Eats orders are commonly reported to post as restaurant purchases, while rides post as transportation.
| MCC | Category | Where it applies |
|---|---|---|
| — | Restaurant delivery orders | Commonly reported to post as a restaurant (5812 or 5814). Some older reports said it posted as travel. |

How card issuers treat it
- Chase. Uber Eats is named in Chase's "Select food delivery" category, and third-party delivery is excluded from "dining when purchased directly from a restaurant."
- American Express. The Gold Card earns its restaurant rate on U.S. takeout and delivery, and comes with monthly Uber Cash usable on U.S. Uber Eats orders and rides once the card is added to your Uber account.
- U.S. Bank. Altitude Go's dining category covers restaurant delivery.
Good to know before you pay
- There's no current Uber co-brand credit card. The earlier Barclays Uber Visa was discontinued.
- Uber Cash is applied before your card, so the part covered by credits doesn't earn card rewards.
Getting the most from Uber Eats purchases
- Use your dining card for Uber Eats and your travel or transit card for rides.
- Look at how a recent purchase posted on your statement or in your card app. That shows the category your issuer actually assigned.
