Card-linked offers: the easy money most cardholders miss
2 min read
Open your card's app and you'll probably find a list of offers like “Spend $50, get $10 back.” Most of them expire unused.
How they work
Card-linked offers are deals that merchants fund and card issuers display in their apps and websites. You add an offer to a specific card, then make a qualifying purchase with that card. The reward usually arrives as a statement credit, sometimes days or weeks later.
The rules to watch
- Add it first. Purchases made before you add the offer usually don't count.
- Use that exact card. The offer is tied to the card you added it to, not to your account in general.
- Check the minimum and the limit. Many offers need a minimum spend and pay out once.
- Watch the expiration date. Offers often run for a few weeks.
- Read the exclusions. Some apply only online, only in stores or only at certain locations.
Is it worth the effort?
Individual offers are small, but they stack on top of your card's normal rewards. Taking a few minutes each month to add offers for places you already shop is one of the easiest ways to earn more without changing your spending.
